JUSTINE (SHE/HER)
I have always had a passion for therapy and guiding people to finding their peace. This took the form of mentorship and tutoring, training coworkers, and assisting others when they are struggling with day-to-day activities at work. While I started out as a graphic designer, my reasons for pursuing that are the same as for pursuing a career in psychotherapy: helping others to solve problems. I live for that lightbulb moment, when you can see it in the other person's eyes, and they say "oh, you get it!"
For the past year, whilst finishing my coursework for my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, I have been volunteering on a local distress line to offer moral support for those in need. It's been very rewarding and has taught me how much more important a listening ear is than simply "having the answer".
As a queer woman, I am so excited for the opportunity to provide therapy to others in the LGBTQ+ community during my practicum. Whether you may be struggling to find out where you fit in with the world, you want to improve your mental wellbeing, or you just need someone that will truly listen, I would be honoured to be that person for you.
My approach to therapy involves a variety of principles, including psychodynamic, solution-focused, emotion-focused, and Gestalt therapies, but the techniques used will depend on what works best for you and your experiences. We can discuss this openly.
Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy my free time in creative writing, video games, and art. I have a passion for all things cute, colourful, and miniature. I also have a cat who wants to wrestle almost 24/7, which means I need to keep him away from my miniatures…
Self-care has always been important for me, and I firmly believe that we need to allow time and space to take care of ourselves before we can take care of each other.
If you are looking for a space to talk about things, let's see if we are a good fit! I look forward to meeting with you.
