RACHAEL (SHE/HER)

I am a student therapist with over ten years of experience working in the mental health field. Looking back, I have always had a keen interest in mental health, even as a child. My curiosity towards emotional, relational, and inner experiences, led me to pursue a BSc degree at the University of Toronto in Mental Health Studies, and then later a MA in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. Over the years, I have worked as a research assistant and intake coordinator working with diverse populations across Ontario. Through these opportunities, I gained experience working from a trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and anti-oppressive approach.

As a queer-identifying psychotherapist, it is important for me to uphold culturally-competent and anti-oppressive values. To me, this involves demonstrating curiosity and openness, and approaching exploratory discussions around personal identities, intersectionality, as well as systemic issues. This is a life-long learning opportunity for me and I am committed to demonstrating these values and having these important discussions.

I believe therapy is a place to share your strengths and triumphs, as well as navigate challenges. It is meant to be a place for you to feel supported and heard so that you feel more confident at navigating your daily life. My aim as a psychotherapist is to provide an empathetic and non-judgmental space for you to safely explore your emotional, relational, and inner experiences.

I like to take an integrated approach to therapy, usually taking concepts from Narrative, Solution-Focused, Acceptance and Commitment, Strengths-Based, and Cognitive-Behavioural therapy approaches. I am also keenly interested in the mind-body connection and like to incorporate somatic (body-focused) and mindfulness practices as well. However, we will discuss your preferences and needs and tailor the approach so that is most helpful for you.

If you resonated with my message here, please feel free to reach out through email and we can discuss your needs further. I would be delighted to hear from you.
