CASSIDY (SHE/HER)
Hello, my name is Cassidy. I have been working and volunteering in the mental health field for eleven years and working as a therapist for the last seven.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Brain and Cognition; a Graduate Certificate in Addictions: Prevention and Treatment; and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. I am currently a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying).
I have experience treating a range of concerns, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, trauma symptoms, relationships, self-esteem, body image, communication skills, system navigation, ADHD, gender identity, and sexual orientation.
My approach as a therapist is client-centred, meaning that I put your perspectives, desires, boundaries, and needs first. I incorporate concepts and interventions from multiple therapeutic methods. My current favourites are Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), Attachment-Based Therapy, and Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy. I also like to dip my toe into Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, and Experiential Therapy. I bring to my work a combination of what I’ve learned in school, in my personal life, and from all my clients over the years.
I think there’s a sacredness to my work as a therapist; I really value the privilege of witnessing and holding peoples’ stories. I want to honor the courage and vulnerability needed to ask for help. I strive to remain nonjudgmental and curious in my sessions while making generous assumptions. It is also important to me to de-pathologize and normalize your symptoms - our mental health does not exist in a vacuum, we live in a society full of intersecting forms of oppression, and very often the symptoms we experience are valid responses to these conditions.
The way I show up as a therapist is also informed by my lived experience as a Queer, neurodivergent woman. I love connecting with clients from all communities, but there is really something special about working with those whose identities I share. My ADHD mind likes to think nonlinear ways, metaphors, and mental images – sometimes this really clicks with other ADHD brains! I really value my professionalism, but it’s also my style to hold space in sessions which feels comfortable and relaxed…one of my favourite compliments I’ve gotten from a client was that our virtual sessions feel like we’re curled up on opposite ends of a couch and talking over cups of coffee.
In my personal life, I am blessed with a wonderful spouse, a very mean cat, and a very shy snuggly dog. You might see my pets during our video sessions! When I’m not wearing my “therapist hat” I love to crochet, to go thrifting, and to hyperfixate on anything to do with spooky season (which is all year round in my heart).
If my approach and presence feel like a good fit for you, I invite you to reach out today to begin our work together.
