ALI (SHE/HER)

My name is Ali, and I’m a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying).

I’ve always been interested in words and meaning. So much of what hurts is hard to explain, and “making sense” of our experiences (in our minds, bodies, and relationships) allows us to find presence and connection.

Before becoming a psychotherapist, I had a career in research, with a background in Mad studies, semiotics, and communication studies. My academic work focused on emotional distress, meaning, and identity – asking questions about what it means to feel deeply and how that intersects with power and marginalization. I bring this lens to my work with clients, balancing a deep interest in what it feels like to be who you are with a curiosity about the structures and forces that shape your experience of the world. These questions are always important, but they take on new meaning in work with queer-identified clients and those facing marginalization from multiple directions.

My treatment specialties include queerness and identity, life transitions, trauma, spirituality, and relationship issues. As an integrative psychotherapist, I draw on principles and techniques from psychodynamic, somatic, parts work (IFS), and emotion-focused traditions.

Therapy is a relationship, and feeling a connection is important. I offer a complimentary 15-minute consultation so that we can get to know each other and talk about what our work together might look like. If you think we might be a good fit, I’d love to connect.
